Newly Appointed Blog Steward

Hello, my name is Arthur Challenger Oemke and I am the new steward of the EMU Creative Writing Blog. This is my second year in the Creative Writing MA program. I will endeavour to maintain the blog’s up to date community news as well as introduce some new elements. My vision is that this blog communicates, not just speaks. I encourage feedback; inform me of your wants, needs, quandaries- share your anxieties. This is a safe space.

As the end of the world hastens toward us, our community, creative writers and those who enjoy the work of creative writers, must collaborate, comingling ideas and events, a reciprocal sharing of what we each have to offer. During this period of administration, it is my aim to deface and contort the current blog into a shape that more closely resembles the aesthetic of EMU’s Creative Writing Program. If you have questions or submissions I encourage you to explore the submissions’ page here.

I look forward to my term as blog steward and honoring the community.

The Blog Wants You (So Does the Photo page)

The Creative Writing Blog is always looking for content.  So if you have something that you think would be worthwhile to share on the Blog, send it!

Submissions can include (but are not necessarily limited to) the following:

  • announcements about your work (including cognate work and work appearing online)
  • transcripts of your self-conducted interviews with local or visiting writers
  • your original reviews of books or readings by local or visiting writers
  • info about where to find recent interviews and book reviews of visiting authors, submission/contest opportunities, and articles on writing and publishing
  • anything else you think might be of interest to folks involved with the CW program.

A great starting point for finding authors to interview and review is the Bathhouse Reading Series (see link in the Blogroll).

Likewise, the Creative Writing Flickr photostream would love to see your images from recent CRTW classes, mixed media/cognate projects, and readings or other events.

Send your blog submissions and/or your pics (ideally jpeg format, around 1MB) to:
jvisnawi<at symbol>emich.edu

Welcome to Winter ’09!

Welcome back to all EMU Creative Writing folks.  Hopefully, you had an enjoyable break and are ready to tackle Winter semester.  Here are a couple of reminders:

  • The CW Blog wants and welcomes your contributions.  Send a report on a BathHouse reading, a review of a recently published novel, links to pertinent news articles, or anything else you think might be of interest to EMU’s CW community to Jack Visnaw at  jvisnawi<at>emich.edu.
  • EMU Creative Writing also has its own YouTube channel.  You can submit footage from student readings to Christine Hume’s mailbox in the English Department office.  Clips must be less than 10 minutes, on CD, and ready for the web.  E-mail Christine Hume at chume<at>emich.edu if you have questions.  You can visit the YouTube channel and check out clips of readings on campus at:

The CW Blog is always welcoming submissions.  Send your material to Jack Visnaw (jvisnawi <at> emich.edu).  Submissions can include:

  • announcements about your work (including cognate work and work appearing online)
  • transcripts of your self-conducted interviews with local or visiting writers
  • your original reviews of books or readings by local or visiting writers

Content suggestions are always welcome!  Special thanks go out to Christine Hume and Steve Benninghoff for getting the Blog back on track!
